Hi, I’m Nicole Gagnon, RD (she/her)

I’m a Registered Dietitian and Certified Microbiome Analyst based in Ottawa, Ontario.

I help adults improve both mental and physical health using evidence-based, plant-forward nutrition and gut microbiome support. Key areas include depression and anxiety and healthy aging and longevity.

I focus on optimal nourishment and reducing inflammation in the body and brain through practical, sustainable changes to food and lifestyle.

How I work with clients

Nutrition should be both evidence-based and realistic.

Food plays a powerful role in supporting health and can influence the trajectory of how you feel—both physically and mentally.

At the same time, I know how difficult it can be to change your eating habits, especially when your energy, mood, or motivation are low.

That’s why I focus on small, sustainable changes that build over time—helping you make progress without feeling overwhelmed.

My approach focuses on:

  • simple, practical changes

  • building consistency over time

  • supporting both physical and mental health

  • addressing gut microbiome imbalances

My clinical experience

I began my career at The Ottawa Hospital, where I worked with patients managing complex health conditions. Specialty locales included The Ottawa University Heart Institute and The Ottawa Hospital Weight Management Clinic/Bariatric Centre of Excellence. I also provided services to patients in oncology and nephrology.

For the past 14 years, I have worked at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, supporting individuals with mental health conditions and related metabolic health challenges.

This experience has shaped my understanding of the connection between mental health, physical health, and nutrition.

My education and training

Why work with a Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a regulated health professional with specialized training in medical nutrition therapy.

In Ontario, dietitians are regulated by the College of Dietitians of Ontario, ensuring that care is:

  • evidence-based

  • safe for medical conditions

  • ethical and accountable

This means you can trust that the guidance you receive is grounded in science—not trends.
